This week, I’m talking about the Sunsweet Plum Amazins, and, let me tell you, they truly are amazing! These little Amazins are diced dried plums, otherwise known as prunes. Prunes tend to get a bad rep; however, they are packed with dietary fiber, antioxidants, vitamins and minerals all for a small amount of calories. So, you may be thinking, what makes these Plum Amazins different than plain old prunes? Well, they are actually considered the newest innovation in dried fruits due to their texture and taste. Since Plum Amazins are diced, they make an excellent substitute for dried cranberries and raisins. They have 50% more fiber, almost half the sugar, a better glycemic index, no added sugar or preservatives and very few calories, which all factor into the excellent NuVal® score of 91! This beats out both dried cranberries (NuVal® 4) and raisins (NuVal® 87).

How do I like to use them? I package them in little baggies to take on the go as a sweet and satisfying snack, throw a handful on my salads or cereal, toss a bunch in my hot morning oatmeal or daily afternoon yogurt, and, if it’s a weekend that I’m baking, I use them in muffins, pancakes and cookies; the possibilities are endless!
