The Dietitian’s Top Pick: Flatout® Multi-Grain with Flax Flat Bread + GIVEAWAY!

Pizza is a favorite food for almost everyone! For me, it’s the go-to dinner on Friday nights (Woo hoo! TGIF!). I love pizza, but I don’t love the fact that it can be loaded with calories and lacking in nutrition. The good news is, we can still have our beloved pizza (and eat it too!).

The crust is often what makes or breaks a pizza. Toppings and cheese tend to be pretty standard, but the crust can be a little more difficult to perfect in both nutrition and taste. Instead of kneading and rolling out my own homemade dough, this week’s pick is a ready-made alternative that makes an amazing pizza crust: Flatout® Multi-Grain with Flax Flat Bread. The super NuVal® score of 60 caught my eye in the deli area of the store, to the point where I stopped in my tracks to learn how this could be. This variety of Flatout® is an excellent source of omega-3 fatty acids (from the flaxseeds), high in fiber, made with 100% whole wheat and has 9g of protein per flatbread! But, would it pass my pizza crust taste test?

I experimented with this Sausage and Pepper Flatbread recipe, and it turned out great! I’ve used the Multi-Grain with Flax Flat Breads time and time again with family and friends, which also allows everyone to make their own personal pizza creation.     These are great for making pizzas with leftovers! I spray olive oil on top, bake about 3-5 minutes, then put the toppings on and bake until done. Crispy crust, and make them as healthy as you like!

    I like their lower carb count as my husband has diabetes and it’s always a struggle to find good bread that won’t require a lot of insulin to compensate for it. We would definitely make some wraps with these!

    What a good idea for “make-at-home” pizza. Using the turkey crumbles saves fat and calories, too. Thanks for the recipe.

    We buy a package a week and use them for everything. We make turkey bacon, lettuce and tomato wraps, breakfast wraps and, our favorite, pizza! Even my fiancé loves Flat Outs. If making pizza I recommend broiling it for a minute or two at the end. Makes the Flat Out nice and crispy!

    I would make oven or grill pizzas – veggie or margherita. My daughters would use them for school lunhces and make wrap with hummus and veggies.

    I made a pizza today with the Italian Herb flavored flatbread. It was really good.
    Flatout also has “Fold-its” that I use for my turkey burgers.
    I think the best thing about the Flatouts breads are that they have high fiber and high protein generally (and pretty low carbs considering).
