 We are really looking forward to summer fruit season! In a recent blog, I talked about peaches and nectarines and how those crops are coming along. I am now looking into cherries and it seems that the spring California cherry crop is going to have a slow start. The early growing I hope that everyone is enjoying the nice weather that we have had lately in Wisconsin. As we all look toward summer, I know that many of us are looking forward to some refreshing tree fruit from our grower, Summerripe. Valentine’s Day is almost here and Festival is the perfect place to shop for your sweetheart. Everything you need for a romantic dinner is within arm’s reach. The meat department will have steak and lobster ready to go for your main course. The deli will have chocolate covered strawberries for a special treat. The bakery The Festival Foods floral and produce departments are filling up with beautiful poinsettias. All of the stores have been very creative and I know you will enjoy these massive displays. Poinsettias make a wonderful gift as well as a great seasonal touch for your own home. If you don’t care for the traditional red poinsettia, Pomegranates are typically available in our stores August through December. We are in the middle of the California season so it is a really great time to give them a try. It’s been about a year since many of us have had a fresh picked Wisconsin apple so I am excited that Wisconsin Apple season is starting soon. Festival Foods will have all of your favorite local apples available and I’ve been told that our cooler nights have bought on beautiful color. The apples are also After a cool spring, we are finally getting close to having our produce departments full of locally grown products. We have many local growers in Wisconsin that we partner with us at Festival Foods and the weather has really been a challenge for them this year. Some of our growers deliver to only I am excited that summer is finally on its way to Wisconsin so we can all get outside and enjoy the fresh air and warm sun. It’s just in time because my kids were really starting to go crazy after being stuck inside all winter. Summer also brings great stuff to the produce department like Recently, I had the opportunity to travel down to Chile and learn about their export fruit industry. I’m very thankful to have been given this opportunity; I definitely learned a lot about the many different kinds of fruit that they grow there. One of the most fascinating parts of the trip was Green Bay, Wis.
